Westfield Care Home resident Paul and his wife Wendy celebrated their 43rd wedding anniversary recently at the Country Court Care and Nursing home in Boston. Wendy arranged a party at the home to celebrate the joyous occasion and invited her sister Elaine and husband Noel, friends Dan & Chis and all the residents to join their milestone celebration. Dan and Chris also brought their dog, a Chihuahua named Teddy, to which one of the residents took a real shine to and to Wendy and Pauls friend Dan.
At the celebration party residents enjoyed singing and dancing with friends & family to a variety of old classics songs sung by a guest singer – Polly Raymond. They had a delicious buffet spread with cake to follow from the Cake Box shop in Boston Asda for all to enjoy. All the residents commemorated the anniversary by giving the happy couple cards, flowers, and gifts. All of which were gratefully received by Wendy and Paul, who commented “how lovely it all was”.
Paul and Wendy first met in London in 1978 at a local pub. The pair were introduced through one of Wendy’s friends when they were out. From this moment the couple did everything together. They rented their first flat in London and then married in 1979 at a London church surrounded by friends and family. They then bought a house in Boston in 2000 and eventually moved there in 2007 where Paul became a porter at the local hospital. But once Covid 19 hit he stopped working and retired.
Paul now lives at Westfield Care & Nursing home where Wendy is a volunteer supporting residents with activities and days out. Wendy loves being around all the residents, ‘they all come to me and want cuddles’. Paul has settled in well and Wendy says she is content with the care and support they both receive from the home and how she feels like they are “all one big family”.
