Veterans come together at Greenwood Court -

To honour D-Day, we hosted a special breakfast to express our gratitude to all veterans for their years of service to our country. During the event, we made two toasts: one to the King and another to absent friends. Throughout the morning, we shared personal stories and experiences, as well as those of our family members who served in the Navy, Army, and RAF,” said Wellbeing Coordinator Colin Mace.

Residents loved the interaction with the students and sharing their most treasured experiences and memories. The students also found it valuable, especially Daniel who appreciated learning from others, and another student who commented, ‘I think it’s an honourable thing to fight for your country,’” added Home Manager Rebecca Harris.

Veterans reminiscing over their years of service -

Our resident veterans include Alan, John, and Ivon, who each served two years in the RAF, Ken, who served two years in the Army, and Bernard, who was a draughtsman in structural engineering, a reserved occupation. Wellbeing Coordinator Collin Mace served seven years as a chef in the Navy, saying it was the best option at that time, and Ivon, our Catering Support Manager, was a chef in the RAF for 12 years.” Commented Customer Relations Manager Wendy Twydell.

Even though times have changed and so have the generations, I believe you still stand by your country and support it wherever needed,” commented Resident Ken.

We should celebrate today and thank those who helped us achieve the good we have today by serving in the war,” said Resident Bernard.
