Tallington Lodge Care Home, located in the charming village of Tallington near Stamford, Lincolnshire, recently organised a successful Wellbeing Hub event. The initiative was spearheaded by Morgan Hicks, the Senior Customer Relations Manager, along with dedicated members of the care home staff. The event aimed to bring together residents, their families, friends, and the local community to learn about various support services available to older people and their carers.
Commenting on the event Morgan said “We are extremely grateful to the companies who attended and had a stand at our event. Here at Tallington Lodge, we understand finding services and support for older people can sometimes be challenging. Bringing local service providers together at one event for families and those caring for the elderly in the community has been a great success. We also found it was a great opportunity for people from the local community to meet and chat over refreshments in our café and offer each other support informally too”.
Companies and services who attended the event included Paul Holden from the Macular Society. Paul explained to visitors how the society supports people living with the disease which affects vision, with age-related macular degeneration being the most common condition, as not everyone is aware of the support available to them.
Also attending was Mobility Your Way, who have a showroom in Peterborough. They demonstrated a selection of mobility scooters, walking aids and information about the footwear they stock. Their products and equipment are designed to help individuals maintain independence.
Carers First Lincolnshire was in attendance, they work directly with thousands of unpaid carers, providing practical information and support, making it easier for them to continue living their lives to the fullest. Not all carers are aware of the support and information that is available for them and attending these events helps to raise awareness as it is estimated that there are over 70,000 people in Lincolnshire providing care for a relative or friend. Carers First believes that every one of those people deserves the support necessary to thrive in their role.
The Mobile Dental Services team was at the event to share information about the importance of good oral health and explain how they can offer mobile dental clinics directly to the care home so the services can be delivered in the comfort of the resident's familiar surroundings. Their mobile dentists are equipped to provide excellent mobile care, bringing smiles back to their valued community members.
There were leaflets available for Passenger Assist, Mobility Transport Services, based in Peterborough, who provide door-to-door assistance for hospital or GP appointments, seaside visits, shopping, day centres and more. All their drivers are fully DBS-checked, and first-aid certified.
Feedback from attendees was overwhelmingly positive. The Mobile Dental Services team expressed their gratitude, stating, “Thank you for having us. We enjoyed meeting the staff, relatives, and residents who stopped by.” A relative who attended commented, “It was a very informative event and helpful to know of the services available to support our loved ones.”.
In addition to the Wellbeing Hub, Tallington Lodge Care Home is launching a cosy community coffee morning starting on Thursday, 18th of July, from 10:30 am to 12 pm. These bi-weekly gatherings will provide a wonderful opportunity for people to connect, offering support to carers in a dementia-friendly setting within a warm and friendly atmosphere.
