Supportive Ageing Well Hub at Hermitage House Care Home

Hermitage House Care Home in Thrapston recently hosted a lively Ageing Well Hub event, bringing together residents, families, and the local community. The event featured various local support and wellness groups, all focused on enhancing health and wellbeing in the community.

Home Manager Jolene Anderson shared her appreciation for the collaborative effort:

“We were thrilled to welcome an incredible range of community groups including Fane Clinic, Thrapston and District U3A, Home Instead, Devika Care Company, Eternity Funeral Services, Volunteer Action East Northamptonshire, William Browne Solicitors, Avril Phillips and Family, British Red Cross and Many More. Their support made the day truly memorable.”

The event focused on important topics like loneliness. Wellbeing Walks Officer Kayleigh shared, “Our walking group is open to all ages and provides a friendly, welcoming environment. It’s a wonderful way to combat loneliness, as we’ve seen many participants form meaningful connections. Additionally, the walks are great for overall wellbeing, helping to improve fitness in a low-impact way.”

The Importance of Community Engagement:

Matthew and Katie from Eternity Funeral Services emphasized the importance of ongoing community engagement and building trust with their service before it’s needed:

We’re not your typical funeral directors—we’re family-run and non-scary. Our goal is to break away from the traditional funeral director stereotype. We pride ourselves on being a close-knit family, creating an environment where people feel comfortable reaching out even before they need our services. By building relationships in advance, we can make a real difference. Many of our clients come to us through personal connections, so they get to know us face-to-face, not just through a screen.”

Rachel Dickson, Chief Executive of Volunteer Action, praised the event, saying: "Today has been a wonderful opportunity to connect with other community groups and highlight the range of services available to those in need in and around Thrapston. It’s been fantastic to showcase our volunteer-led initiatives, such as the Community Car Service and Befriending Service, which many may not be aware of, along with support for hospital appointments and much more."

Customer Relations Manager Jessica Grayson voiced her thanks to all attendees:

“Thank you to everyone who joined and supported our event. We hope you found it informative and a valuable networking opportunity. Be sure to watch for more of our events designed to support the Thrapston community.”
