Recently, residents at Belmont House Care & Nursing Home near Stockbridge enjoyed a trip to Wigfield Farm in Barnsley. They loved seeing newborn lambs, horses, and various other animals, making their trip truly special. Surprisingly, one resident even had the privilege of naming a newborn lamb at the farm.
Barnsley Farm is a working farm with a range of animals such as horses, goats, sheep, cows, pigs, donkeys, ponies, horses, and llamas. They also have smaller animals such as chickens, rabbits, guinea pigs, meerkats, and tortoises. All of which you can feed on your visit.
‘During a conversation with a farm staff member, it was revealed that this year's lambs were being given names beginning with the letter "E." One of the lambs hadn't yet been named but when our resident Edith met the little lamb the farm decided to name her after Edith.’ Commented Wellbeing Coordinator Yvonne Snape.
‘Edith thoroughly enjoyed the trip and getting outside in the fresh air. When they announced the lamb would be named Edith after her she was so excited and had a massive smile on her face. After seeing the animals everyone enjoyed visiting the café for a well-deserved sit down with a coffee and slice of cake.’ Commented Wellbeing Coordinator Yvonne Snape.
‘The farm was wonderful. Everything was accessible for our residents and interactive. Residents got to stoke the animals and feed them. Visiting the lambs was such a meaningful and memorable moment for our resident Edith. It’s been the perfect trip to start of the spring season.’ Commented Home Manager Joanne Coldwell.
