Selwood House Care Home, near Dorchester, has officially declared its Forget Me Not Dementia Café open this week. The ribbon was cut by Jim Marshall who represented the Alzheimer's Society.
The monthly Forget Me Not Café hosted at Selwood House Care Home has been designated as the primary approved support hub for Dementia and Alzheimer's for the Dorchester area. It will provide support for individuals living with dementia and their caregivers. The Forget Me Not Café will operate on the first Wednesday of each month from 10 am to 12 pm, providing a dedicated space for community members to gather, share experiences, and access resources.
Kate Andrew, Customer Relations Manager at Selwood House commented.
"The launch of our Dementia Café marks an important step towards enhancing community support here in Charlton Down. The 'Forget Me Not Café' is open to all, providing a friendly and supportive environment where visitors can enjoy refreshments and participate in activities tailored to their needs."
The café's first session was attended by members of the local community and was dedicated to welcoming guests and establishing a community feel with a selection of freshly made cakes and beverages. Future sessions will feature educational talks and dementia-friendly activities, such as music therapy sessions.
Becky Green, Home Manager, also commented. "We're grateful for the support from Alzheimer's Society representatives, Mel Matthews and Jim Matthews, who will regularly attend the café to offer guidance and assistance."
