Selwood House Care Home, located in Charlton Down near Dorchester, recently marked its first anniversary in grand style, hosting a dazzling ‘Great Gatsby’ themed celebration. Since opening its doors in September 2023, the home has become a cherished part of the local community, providing high-quality care for residents. The event brought together residents, their families, staff, and local community members for a day filled with 1920s glamour and fun.
Opened by the Deputy Mayor of Dorchester Janet Hewin last year, Selwood House was praised as “a wonderful place, a wonderful home.” The care home offers a range of high-quality services, including residential, dementia, and respite person-centred. The home also boasts an array of luxurious facilities such as the Coffee Club café, The Boat House pub, the Elegance Hair Salon, and the Buttons Arts and Crafts Studio. Residents enjoy spacious en-suite rooms and have access to a private dining area.

For the special occasion, Selwood House was transformed into a vibrant 1920s-inspired setting, complete with black and gold Gatsby-style decorations. Guests embraced the theme, donning elegant flapper dresses, suits, and accessories. The entertainment included a live musician, a close-up magician, and a caricaturist.
Residents were treated to a lavish selection of canapés and a stunning Gatsby-themed birthday cake, all prepared by the home’s talented chef.
