Lakeview Lodge Care Home near Milton Keynes recently brought smiles, laughter, and heartfelt memories to its residents through a special visit as part of its ‘Make a Wish’ initiative. This time, the wish of two residents, Eileen and Mavis, to reconnect with their love of ponies—a cherished part of their youth—was fulfilled, thanks to Little Hooves Big Memories. This organisation specialises in therapeutic pony visits, spreading comfort and joy to people of all ages in care homes and schools.
This heartwarming encounter was part of the ‘Make a Wish’ initiative, which aims to fulfill the personal dreams of residents at Lakeview Lodge and other homes within the Country Court group. Residents have experienced various unique activities, from exhilarating boat trips to memorable book launches and even adventurous off-road driving experiences.
‘Eileen and Mavis, lifelong horse enthusiasts, were thrilled to spend time with Blue, the visiting pony. The residents stroked Blue and shared fond memories of their younger days, sharing smiles, laughter, and even a few happy tears.’ Commented Customer Relations Manager Sharon Guntrip.
“It was a truly special moment to see Eileen and Mavis so overjoyed. Their stories of riding ponies as children resonated with us, and it was our honour to bring a piece of their past back to life. The happiness in their eyes reminded us of the power of simple, heartfelt wishes.” Commented Wellbeing Coordinator Claire.
‘The excitement extended beyond Eileen and Mavis. Other residents and staff were equally captivated, calling the experience “utterly amazing.” For those unable to join the main gathering in the lounge, Blue visited individual rooms, ensuring everyone could share in the delight. The sight of the pony trotting through the hallways brought laughter and excitement, turning the day into a home-wide celebration.’ Commented Home Manager Maria Nelson Addy.
“We are incredibly grateful for the opportunity to create such meaningful experiences for our residents,” said Commented Wellbeing Coordinator Claire. “Moments like these remind us why we do what we do.”
