The Grove Care Home in Waltham recently surprised resident Betty aged 99 and close friend Beryl with tickets to attend Anton Du Beke's ‘Together’ live tour with Giovanni Pernice. The surprise was part of the care home’s Make a Wish initiative.
The Make a Wish initiative at The Grove Care Home, and throughout the Country Court group, offers residents the chance to enjoy memorable outings and activities, ranging from boat trips and book launches to off-road driving and family tea parties. This initiative is a key part of The Grove's person-centred care approach, where staff actively listen to and learn about residents' unique hobbies and pastimes, tailoring activities to individual preferences.
Customer Relations Manager, Ros Wells explained.
“Betty is an avid Strictly Come Dancing fan, she never misses a show, and she has always dreamt of seeing the professional dancers live on tour—especially her idol, Anton Du Beke. When our Wellbeing Team discovered that Anton Du Beke and Giovanni Pernice had a live show in Scunthorpe at The Baths Hall, we immediately booked tickets. Betty was thrilled by this news,”
Resident Betty commented on the experience.
“It was a really special evening,” while her close friend Beryl shared that it was a “real treat.”
Wellbeing Coordinators Michelle Bloy and Julie Moore also commented.
“It was wonderful to support Betty with this wish, the highlight of the show was when Anton and the audience wished her a happy 100th birthday ahead of her celebrations next month with family and friends, she was also pleased to receive a signed photo of Giovanni Pernice and Anton Du Beke, which she is looking forward to displaying in her room.”
