Lyncroft Residents and Tesco Team Up for a Creative Community Project

Residents and Wellbeing Coordinators at Lyncroft Care Home in Wisbech have taken on a creative challenge with enthusiasm and flair. When Julie Busby, Community Champion at the Wisbech Tesco store, visited the home and admired a post box topper on display, she couldn’t resist setting the team a new challenge: to design a bespoke topper for the post box at Tesco’s main entrance.

Sarah Perkins, a Wellbeing Coordinator at Lyncroft, is no stranger to ambitious projects. She and her team of residents, staff, volunteers, and community members recently created a massive yarn bomb at Wisbech Castle, which they hope will earn them a Guinness World Record. Taking on Julie’s challenge, Sarah rallied her team of skilled knitters and crocheters to craft a delightful new topper, now proudly displayed for all Tesco shoppers to enjoy.

The residents Pauline, Doreen, Barbara, and Janice played a central role in the project. Each brought their love of knitting and crocheting to the design process, which resulted in a cheerful and colourful topper featuring fruit and vegetable characters. The topper was designed to bring smiles to shoppers and showcase the creativity of the residents.

The completed topper was unveiled in a special event attended by several community figures, including Sidney Imafidon, the Mayor of Wisbech; Rodelle Brooks from Wisbech Food Bank, with whom Lyncroft has been actively involved; Amanda Scott, also known as the Singing Gardener; Tesco Manager Jonathon Goose; and Julie Busby, Tesco’s Community Champion.

Reflecting on the project, Sarah Perkins said: “The whole process has been incredibly rewarding. The residents loved coming up with ideas, creating the pieces, and arranging the design. Projects like this help our residents stay active, creative, and connected to the local community.”

Julie Busby was equally thrilled with the results. “Thank you, Sarah, and your incredible team of knitters. The topper is amazing—beyond anything I could have imagined. It’s a wonderful creation that will bring joy to everyone visiting the store.”

At Lyncroft, every day is an opportunity to make a difference—whether through creative challenges, supporting local initiatives, or simply spreading joy. If you’d like to know more about life at Lyncroft Care Home, please get in touch.
