History Afternoon at Hermitage House

Hermitage House Care Home in Thrapston recently hosted an historical afternoon that took them back in time. Eric Franklin, a local historian, led the event and shared his knowledge and memorabilia about the First World War. Eric bought wartime artefacts such as gas masks and ration books. He also recited his personal stories and shared those of people from local area who fought and died in the war. ‘It was a poignant and wonderful talk that reminded us of the importance of history and how it has shaped our present day.’ Said Home Manager Clare Hedge.

The event attracted many guests from the local community, including members of The Royal British Legion. Staff and family members also attended, and everyone enjoyed the coffee, tea, and cakes on offer. ‘We were delighted to see so many people join us and learn from Eric’s knowledge.’ Said Customer Relations Manager Sarah-Beth Preston.

The residents enjoyed chatting with Eric and sharing their own experiences from their younger days and their parents’ roles in the war. ‘Eric told us a quote that I liked which was “without history, we wouldn’t be where we are today ’ Said Home Administrator Jess Grayson.
