Greenwood Court Care Home in Great Baddow was thrilled to fulfill a heartfelt wish for one of its residents, Ken, as part of Country Court’s “Make a Wish” initiative. Ken, a long-time golfer and honorary member of Crondon Park Golf Club, had expressed a desire to return to the place where he had spent countless joyful days playing golf and socialising with friends.
‘Our Resident Ken, who played at Crondon Park Golf Club regularly for over 30 years, had to give up the sport in 2017 due to declining health and mobility. His wish was to revisit the club, relive old memories, and share the experience with his new friends from Greenwood Court.’ Commented Customer Relations Manager Wendy Twydell.
‘The day began with Ken and his friends, Ian and Ted, being picked up by a golf buggy from the car park and taken to the clubhouse in style. They were warmly greeted by club staff, including familiar faces from Ken’s playing days. Over coffee, they reminisced with the club’s Golf Director, David, who shared stories of the club’s rich history and Ken’s time as a member. A highlight of the day was a personalised tour of the golf course in a golf buggy, guided by Stuart, the Head Groundskeeper. Ken remarked on the many positive changes to the course since his last visit and was impressed by the well-maintained fairways. To commemorate the occasion, David presented Ken with a 30th Anniversary Souvenir bag of local golfing memorabilia.’ Commented Wellbeing Coordinator Collin Mace.
The day concluded with a traditional 19th-hole lunch, enjoyed with a tipple and plenty of laughter. Resident Ken said the experience was unforgettable, adding, “It was great to visit the club, share old memories, and make new ones with my mates. Wishes do come true, and this one was so special to me.”
Home Manager Rebecca Green commented, “It was an absolute joy to see Ken’s happiness and to be able to make such a meaningful day happen for him. Country Court’s ‘Make a Wish’ initiative is all about creating special moments for our residents, and today was a shining example of that.”
