As 2024 draws to a close, Fairfield Manor Care and Nursing Home near Hitchin celebrates a year of joy and community spirit. From heartfelt moments to lively events, this year has been one to remember for our residents, families, and staff.
St. Patrick’s Day Festivities The home turned into a sea of green with hats, Irish songs, and clovers setting the mood. Residents enjoyed a tot of whiskey alongside the laughter and camaraderie of the day.
Celebrations of Spring and Family ‘Mothering Sunday was a special occasion to honour all the beautiful ladies in our Care Home. The Easter Bunny made a cheerful visit, spreading smiles among the residents. Meanwhile, resident Margery and Jean showcased their crochet skills by crafting delightful Easter chicks, raising £80 for the residents' comfort fund. Nurturing Nature ‘Residents and relatives embraced spring by enhancing our wildlife area. Seeds were sown, birdhouses decorated, and a bug house crafted by Steve, a devoted visitor. A Paw-some Dog Show ‘Our annual dog show welcomed twelve charming canines, impressing residents and visitors alike with their tricks and adorable costumes. Three residents proudly served as judges, making it an unforgettable day.’ Commented Lead Wellbeing Coordinator Nicky.
Coronation and Communion ‘The coronation of King Charles was a proud moment for our residents, celebrated with flags, tea, and cakes. The local church continues to be a cherished part of life at Fairfield Manor, with resident June marking a special Holy Communion service led by Reverend Bill Britt.’ Commented Wellbeing Coordinator Aimee.
Creativity and Country Fun ‘Home Manager Ioana Puscas joined our wellbeing team for a craft fair, showcasing handmade treasures by our residents. A Western-themed event brought joy with BBQ treats, entertainment, and staff-led line dancing.’ Commented Lead Wellbeing Coordinator Nicky.
Summer Highlights ‘Residents explored Stockwood Park Discovery Centre, enjoying its historical exhibits and serene gardens. Our Summer Fair was a smashing success, raising £880 through games, crafts, face painting, and more. Special guests, including Deputy Mayor Steve Hayes and Simon and Anna from Fairfield Parish Church, joined in. A Milestone Birthday ‘We celebrated an extraordinary milestone as our beloved resident Helen turned 100. Surrounded by family and staff, she reflected on a century of memories and accomplishments. Happy 100th Birthday, Helen!’ Commented Lead Wellbeing Coordinator Nicky.
A Spooktacular Halloween ‘Happy Halloween and happy it was, with our long-running Silver Singers, who never disappoint. They delighted everyone with wonderful songs, ending with a lively medley of Halloween favourites. This year, we were thrilled to bring generations together by entertaining children with games, sweets, and shared fun. The atmosphere was electric, and it was a truly fabulous afternoon. Honouring Remembrance Day ‘Fairfield Manor was honoured to be invited by the Fairfield Parish Council to lay a poppy wreath for Remembrance Day. Residents William and Jean, supported by wellbeing team members Nicky and Aimee, joined the village in paying their respects. Highlights included RAF officer Gavin sharing his experiences of flying a Hawker Hurricane, and William recalling his own flight experiences. A Merry Christmas ‘Our Christmas Fair was a fantastic day filled with festive cheer! Thank you to everyone who joined us and generously supported our raffle, tombola, and craft items. Special thanks to staff and the wellbeing team for their hard work, and to the stallholders for their beautiful creations. A big thank you to sous chef June and her team for the popular mulled wine and mince pies. We raised an impressive £740 for the residents' comfort fund.
