In celebration of the Kings Coronation, Country Court recently held their annual Bake Off Competition at Rationale Kitchen in Luton. This year, four talented staff members from across the Country Court Hospitality team went head-to-head to bake a cake themed around the ‘King’s Coronation’.
The accomplished finalists were Beth from Ruckland Court Care Home in Lincoln, Alex from Lyncroft Care Home in Wisbech, Bruno from Lyle House Care Home in London, and Nuryani from Fenchurch Care Home in Spalding.
The competition, hosted by Senior Hospitality Operations Manager Ian Powell, was kickstarted on Wednesday, 12th April 2023, at 8am, giving the talented five finalists just 8 hours to bake and decorate their cakes.
Ian Powell commented on the competition.
“Our annual Country Court Bake Off competition is a fantastic opportunity to showcase our most talented bakers. People have varying perceptions of care home catering and are often unaware of the high standards we set in our homes. Everyday our talented team produces delicious desserts and cakes for our residents, we take great pride in ensuring all our residents have a homemade birthday cake and our teams produce celebration cakes regularly too. It’s great to demonstrate our team’s skills and celebrate the upcoming King’s Coronation too!”
This year the cakes were judged by members of Rationale Kitchen in Luton, who scored on three areas, Appearance, Taste and Texture. Each judge enjoyed a sample of the cake before ranking competitors.
After judging, a winner’s presentation hosted by Ian Powell, crowned Beth from Ruckland Court Care Home in Lincoln as the Country Court Bake Off Winner 2023. Beth was delighted to be presented with a 1st Place glass award together with a beautiful hamper packed with goodies and champagne, kindly donated by Bidfood, a leading UK food wholesaler.
