Castor Lodge Care Home in Castor, Peterborough, recently held an innovative Virtual Reality (VR) session for their residents, thanks to a partnership with Recreo VR. This initiative aimed to provide residents with immersive travel experiences, allowing them to explore fascinating locations without leaving the comfort of their home.
"We want to provide our residents with new and engaging experiences," commented Customer Relations Manager Joe Sagoe. "Partnering with Recreo VR allowed us to bring the outside world to them in a unique way. This technology has given our residents the chance to explore places they otherwise couldn’t, and the specific sites we chose made the experience personal and meaningful for them."
“Absolutely amazed,” shared resident John Carr. “I’m wheelchair-bound, which restricts my ability to move around. There are many things I would like to go and see, but sometimes I have to forgo them because of accessibility issues. But this open book to the world is magnificent. The first thing he showed me was Burghley House. I was in awe of the beautiful ceilings. We then moved to Spain, where he showed me the cherry province. My son, one of my two sons, lives in that part of Spain. I could have stayed much longer looking at those scenes because I'm very sure that I recognized them. There is such a lot on there. It is absolutely fabulous."
To make these experiences possible, Alex Lancaster from Recreo VR visited two significant historical sites near Peterborough: Burghley House in Stamford and Peterborough Cathedral. His visits enabled him to capture detailed VR footage, which was used to create a virtual tour tailored to the residents of Castor Lodge Care Home.
Residents also had the choice to visit Edinburgh Zoo, Spain, or a tour of beaches around the world. ‘Our goal is to facilitate a seamless integration of virtual reality into the daily practices of care facilities, ensuring a transformative and enriching experience for all involved,’ explained Alex Lancaster from Recreo VR.
