Camberwell Lodge Care Home in Southwark, London, recently took part in the ’12 Choirs of Christmas’ alongside the Brunswick Primary School as part of an intergenerational initiative run by The Old Vic Theatre Company in Waterloo.
The Old Vic Theatre commented on the initiative.
“12 Choirs of Christmas supports mental health and wellbeing by partnering 12 community groups for people aged 50+ with 12 primary schools across London to create 12 intergenerational choirs. Each choir will be supported by a Musical Director and have two rehearsals before they perform their Christmas concert in the festive surroundings of The Old Vic foyer.”
Camberwell Lodge and Brunswick Park came together for two rehearsals prior to their Christmas concert. During this time the pupils of the primary school and residents at Camberwell Lodge were able to form new friendships and encourage each other during the performance.
Customer Relations Manager Jessica O’Connell commented on the Christmas Concert.
“It was wonderful to see the residents and pupils perform classic Christmas songs together. We have been working alongside the primary school for a few months now and it’s wonderful to see the residents faces light up when they know the children are coming.
The standout moment of the concert was the audience participation during the classic song ‘The 12 Days of Christmas’ this interactive performance saw everyone in the hall, young and old, joining in. “
The final performance brought together a diverse audience, including residents’ families, members of the local community, and supporters of intergenerational initiatives, all joining in the festive cheer in the The Old Vic Foyer.
