Recently at Oakview Lodge Care & Nursing Home in Welwyn Garden City residents and staff organised a Champions Breakfast to show their appreciation for all blue light workers and all Health Care Professionals who support the care home. Chef manager Anthony Whitfield and his team put on a delicious spread of bacon and sausage rolls and a vegetarian option of fruit, yoghurt and cereal so that all guests were catered for.
Charlotte from the Isabel Hospice joined the breakfast morning commenting ‘I think this is such a wonderful idea and we can’t wait for the next one. I will spread the word to the others in the office’. Charlotte is Head of the Inpatient Unit and has been a qualified nurse for over 20 years.
District Nurse Solomon also joined the breakfast morning whilst visiting a resident living at Oakview Lodge. ‘Solomon left with a huge smile on his face after being offered some food as a thank you for his wonderful work’ commented Wellbeing Coordinator Rachel Davies.
At the champions breakfast residents, staff and visitors had wonderful conversations about their past jobs. Resident Shirley who used to be a Wellbeing Coordinator herself loves to get involved with activities at the home. Wellbeing Coordinator Rachel Davies commented ‘Shirley always helps us with activities and puts forward ideas that she used to do with her residents’.
‘The champions breakfast was a great start to our morning. It brightened residents faces speaking with visitors and you could also see how appreciated guests felt with this kind gesture. We hope to host many more events like this within our home’ commented Home Manager Teresa Torres.
