Residents at Ferrars Hall Care Home in Huntingdon enjoyed a fabulous Valentine’s Day coffee morning, which took place during the Carers Café. Residents, relatives, and guests gathered to sample an array of outstanding cakes while socialising and enjoying each other’s company.
Residents at Ferrars Hall Care Home in Huntingdon enjoyed a fabulous Valentine’s Day coffee morning, which took place during the Carers Café. Residents, relatives, and guests gathered to sample an array of outstanding cakes while socialising and enjoying each other’s company.
Chef Manager Billal West was given the exciting task of creating three delicious cakes for residents and the local community to taste and vote for their favourite. The chosen cakes for the 'Baked with Love' coffee morning were a Black Forest Gateau, Passion Cake, and Romantic Rose Cupcakes. These offerings provided a delightful mix of flavours, including chocolate, cherry, passionfruit, white chocolate, and more.
As part of a company-wide initiative, chefs across all 47 Country Court homes will craft their own unique versions of the cakes, adding their personal flair to the decorations and recipes.
After the votes were counted at Ferrars Hall, there was a tie for the top spot, with both the Black Forest Gateau and Passion Cake crowned as joint winners – though many found it difficult to choose between the two!
In the lead-up to the ‘Baked with Love’ competition, the activity also served as a special opportunity for staff to connect with residents on a personal level. Residents were asked to reflect on what they love most, and their heartfelt responses were displayed on a decorative tree adorned with paper hearts. Unsurprisingly, the overwhelming sentiment from residents was their love for their families.
Katie Peters, Senior Customer Relations Manager, commented:
“It was so lovely to see residents and their families enjoying time together, sharing laughter, and reminiscing over a slice of cake. The cakes were fantastic, but it was the warmth and connection in the room that made the morning truly special.”
One family member shared their thoughts on the day:
"It was a lovely morning, and all the cakes were delicious – it was difficult to pick just one as my favourite."
