Staff at Beech Lodge care and nursing home, near Holbeach made one of their resident’s wishes come true, by organising an Abba tribute band, who visited the home on Jean’s birthday.
Jean celebrated her 89th Birthday on 25th May, surrounded by her family and friends. To celebrate her special day, she had a musical afternoon, which was organised as a ‘Make a wish’ for her.
As part of the Country Court ‘Make a Wish’ initiative, residents are given the opportunity to tell members of staff about somewhere they had always wanted to go or a special activity they had always wanted to do.
When the activities team asked Jean if she could have any wish and what would it be, she told them she would love to see Abba perform. They asked who her favourite band member was and she said, "Oh I don't like any of them, but I like their music, they make good songs”, so they set about making her birthday afternoon one to remember with an Abba Tribute group and a 70's themed buffet.
Jodie, one of the activities coordinators at Beech Lodge said “Jean loves music, anything from country and western to the Birdie song! Since joining Beech Lodge she has always kept us entertained with her love of singing (no matter how out of tune she is) and some of her favourite music is Abba.”
Jean was born in Spalding and raised in Deeping St Nicholas as one of five children.
Jean met her late husband Jack at a dance in her local village hall and they were married for 59 years. Jack sadly passed away in January 2014 shortly before they would have celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary in April. Jean has two daughters, Maxine, and Tracey. She has two grandchildren Gary and Jade, three great grandchildren Jessica, Summer, and Dylan and three great, great grandchildren Logan, Caiden, and Gracie. She also has a great, great, great granddaughter who is due to arrive imminently, creating a fifth generation!
